Welcome families to Awesome Art! After School.
My name is Allison Lash, I'm a Maplewood alumni parent, multimedia artist and former full time art teacher in NYC public schools trained in the Reggio Emilia teaching philosophy of learning through play. Since moving to Austin I've started my small business Awesome Art! where I design classes and workshops for children and adults of all ages leading open-ended, hands-on visual artmaking activities.
Awesome Art! is an approved Fine Arts Service Provider with AISD, has partnered with more than 10 schools in our district, and with the Austin Public Library, the City of Austin, Foundation Communities, the Rosewood Zaragosa Neighborhood Center, Asian American Resource Center, Austin Organic Gardeners, Texas School for the Blind and Visually Impaired, Zilker Botanical Garden, Elisabet Ney Museum, and The Orange Show in Houston . I'm excited to offer my activities for students at Maplewood and Gullett! In response to the digital overload children likely experience, we will focus on analog art activities beginning with drawing from observation (sketchbooks will be provided for each child) and learning to carefully look. I'm excited to provide 1.5 hour classes from 3.15pm until 4.45pm once a week with small class sizes maxed at 12 kids per day to provide individualized, differentiate learning. I have experience with teaching neurodiverse kids and adults.

Working outside as much as possible (as weather permits), we will be using high quality art materials we will build on the Elements of Art skills each week focusing on the following and more!:
